THE BERLIN REVOLUTION FILM FESTIVAL REVIEW by Head Programmer Andrija Jovanovic May 27, 2021

“...The film takes the form of detective research...presented and compared (with a good dose of humor), connections are found and revealed, and all the way we are guided by the sonorous voice of the author who took on the role of detective narrator.

...(W)e have an energetic performance in extravagant costumes, with a diction that presents this theory like an exciting romantic adventure and mystery. Robin Phillips...delves into the dilemma of Shakespeare's identity, discreetly pointing to much more important historical issues, which resonate even today.

The story is told through countless images (tapestries, paintings), interesting (sometimes very witty and humorous) animated collages, quotes and the author's performances. All these elements are packed with skillful editing into an extremely dynamic narrative structure, which from beginning to the end chronologically presents traces and evidences for its theory, culminating in conclusions in which the author does not hesitate to openly express her own position.

...Several layers can be sensed in the film. The cheerful, dynamic and attention grabbing atmosphere is a paravane for a very thorough research...The fact that most of the production was done by Robin Phillips herself, that she is the creator of the whole idea, the screenwriter who worked tirelessly to gather facts, the director who visualized and put this idea into action, the narrator who steered the story all the way, delivering it a great deal of energy through her performance - all this puts a strong emphasis on the project which is almost entirely a work of one woman.

The use of pseudonym under which she signed the script and production can also be seen as an allusion to the fact that male writers have often used pseudonyms throughout history to disguise their identity, but also women, often hidden behind a male name to make their work found recognition in the male world...(T)he film itself becomes a very significant milestone and a work that celebrates women as creators and as a driving force in art...A daring and also inspiring theory, that marks this dynamic cinematic work.”
